Dinomyrmex Gigas nuptial flight

I caught four more dinomyrmex gigas queens during another nuptial flight.

There were some insects flying around a lamp. One of the insects dropped down to the floor and I saw it was a dinomyrmex gigas queen. Over the next few minutes, three other queens landed around this area. There were also a lot of male ants together.

The queen in the picture above sprayed formic acid while she was in the catching tube and was not able to walk properly for a few hours. I thought she would die, but she still seems fine. This let me take a closer picture of her.

Click here to see the image of the queen compared to a 30mm diameter test tube.

I have put each queen in a plastic tub with soil.

queen ant

Found a queen ant, she is HUGEE!!!(3cm approx) I hope she can start a colony. I've never taken care of an ant colony before.

She is likely a Giant Forest Ant(Dinomyrmex gigas) native to Southeast Asia.

I don't think she even fits in a regular test tube. I have put her in a plastic bottle temporarily.

peacock bass

Caught by my friend when we went fishing at lower seletar reservoir. It had 3 baby snakeheads in its mouth. The peacock bass is an invasive species eating the native snakehead.
